Mr. Shin
Ben Shin started at PCCS in 2020. Mr. Shin graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and shortly thereafter started teaching high school math in Dallas, TX. After he moved to the Chicago area, Mr. Shin taught middle school math in Zion and high school math in Waukegan, before finally finding his home at PCCS.
Mr. Shin’s love of mathematics began in middle school and carries to this day. He believes that anyone can be successful in math. Mr. Shin believes success in math can lead to success in further studies in STEAM. Lastly, he’d like to share a joke on how math saves lives:
A math professor was explaining a particularly complicated calculus concept to his class when a frustrated pre-med student interrupts him. “Why do we have to learn this stuff?” the pre-med blurts out. The professor pauses, and answers matter-of-factly: “Because math saves lives.” “How?” demanded the student. “How on Earth does calculus save lives?” “Because,” replied the professor, “it keeps certain people out of medical school.”
