Reading
Mr. Stewart and I have finished the reading assessments and will begin reading groups next week. This past week we only had a few days for reading. The students listened to two books that included economics lessons, I Used to Be Rich Last Sunday and Uncle Jed’s Barbershop. Next week I will read a few more books that have themes of money.
Writing
This past week the students wrote a quick story about a person who saved an animal. They worked on identifying two characters that are in a new short story. The students had to think about the internal and external characteristics of these characters. Next week we will be planning out a realistic story with these characters and writing some scenes from the story. Each student is writing their own realistic fiction story.
Math
In math, the students learned more about multiplication. We solved a variety of problems that included multiplicative comparisons. Students need to study their math facts at home. Next week, we will take an assessment of the concepts taught in this unit including factors, multiples, prime numbers, and composite numbers.
Social Studies
During social studies, we continued to learn more about economics. The students learned about some crops grown in Illinois and some of the products produced in Illinois. Naomi talked about food miles and how it is important to consider when purchasing food.
Reminders/Other
Please let your child know if there are nut products in the lunch. Your child may eat these during lunch away from other students and then wash their hands.
Please send at least two clean masks to school daily. It is also important that your child have a water bottle daily.
