Remind App

If you have not signed up for Remind click the link- https://www.remind.com/join/aad4fk. This is a quick way to get a message to you or for you to get a message to me. This is used for time-sensitive messages. Parents have sent me messages when their child needs help in a breakout room. They also have asked what assignments the children should be working on during asynchronous learning. We have used this to remind students to log back onto Zoom.

Spelling

The students will be working on spelling again this week. We will be doing sort 16. There is a picture of this sort on Google Classroom. Please remind your child to study for the test on Friday.

Reading

This past week the students continued to read Chocolate Touch. The students have been learning new vocabulary words and answering questions about the book. A highlight of reading is doing sketch notes on the chapters. Mrs. Steinbeck and I find this strategy great to improve reading comprehension.

Writing

This past week the students picked a narrative writing piece to focus on during writing. Next week we will continue to develop this story and make a final draft. Students are working hard to use a storytelling voice while writing stories.

Math

This past week students solved more multiplication problems. The students counted the number of windows on buildings and wrote multiplication problems. They learned how you can break apart one larger problem into smaller problems. The students have been working with a math partner. We will continue to work with math partners and go over expectations in break out rooms. One way to help your child learn multiplication is to practice skip counting by a variety of numbers like 3’s, 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s.

Science and Social Studies

The students have finished their wetland unit. They spent time last week researching a wetland animal and adding information to a Google Slideshow. Next week, we will begin social studies. The students will be learning about primary and secondary sources.
