Newsletter  11-10-19

The students have typed up their essays of an important person.  Last week they worked on adding all the details and including a short personal narrative to the essay.  Next week they will finalize that essay and begin working on another persuasive essay.

In math, the students are working in Unit 3 about fractions and decimals. The students learned about equivalent fractions and adding fractions.  Next week the students will begin learning about decimals.

During reading the students learned how to summarize their reading.  The students are finishing up a Google Slide show about The Underworlds.  The students need to write about the characters, setting, and plot of the story.  After we finish these projects the students will read different reader’s theater plays.

In science, we finished our sound unit and the test will be on Monday.  The students learned about animal sounds with Naomi. We will begin electricity lessons on Monday.

In other news, don’t forget to send your child ready to go outside daily.  This is the time of the year that the weather can change a lot in one week.  Your child should have an extra set of clothes at school. You might want to send an extra sweater or sweatshirt to keep in his/her locker.

We will be making soup on Monday.  We are using beans and squash from the garden.  Please send your child with a bowl and spoon.

MPAC Mawlid Potluck & Literacy Night 11/14

This year’s MPAC potluck will highlight our Muslim community as we celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif as we focus on zakat or charity.

On Thursday, November 14th in the Byron Colby Barn at 5:30 pm to 7:00pm(ish), enjoy an iftar styled snack before learning about the history and traditions of Islam through a performance, crafts, and reading. We will practice literacy strategies that you can use at home to help your child become a stronger reader.

Then bring a dish from your culture to share with others. It will be like Farm to Table so remember to bring your own plate and utensils.

RSVP at this link and let us know who is coming and what you will bring. Email rfreeman@pccharterschool.org if you have any questions.
