Math

Students have started Unit 7 about multiplication, division, and fractions. They are currently working on solving 2-digit multiplication problems by breaking them into smaller equations. Example- 37 X  5 = (30 X 5) + (7 X 5). It is important for your child to know multiplication facts quickly to be able to solve larger problems. You can use flashcards or various websites or apps. Some websites include: https://www.multiplication.com/teach/practice-facts, https://www.mathplayground.com/index_multiplication_division.html, or https://www.ixl.com/

English Language Arts

During reading, we almost finished our class novel. I have been working with the students to prove their answers with details from the book. There is one more set of questions to answer, and then the students will work on a reading project.

In writing, the students have finished the endangered animal reports. They worked on adding the final revisions last week including adding a bibliography. Next week the will be writing a short story.

Social Studies and Environmental Education

During social studies, the students learned about the rights and responsibilities of citizens. They began learning about the different levels of government and the branches of the government. Next week we will learn more about government including the branches of government.

On Wednesday we had time for phenology. The students all make scientific observations about the dandelions and one other plant.

Native American Experiences

I would like to thank all the parents who were available to help during our Native American experiences. The students got to learn a lot about the Native American culture through crafts, stories, hikes, presentations, and the powwow. It was awesome to see how respectful the students were listening to the presentation and participating in the powwow.
