Math
The students learned about metric measurement and how to convert metric measurements. They studied meters, grams, and liters. The students brought home the assessment on metric measurement. This past week we started learning about US measurement of length and capacity. We will continue US standard measurement conversion next week. You can help your child by asking them to cook or bake things that require measurement.
Reading and Writing
The focus in reading and writing these past few weeks has been poems. The students are learning to write a variety of poems including acrostic, concrete, color, haiku, and cinquain. With all these poems the students are making their own poetry book. They are also learning to read a poem to understand the meaning. The class has read a few poems and answered questions about the poem. During our study of poems the students are learning about and using a variety of figurative language.
Social Studies
Students are very excited during Social Studies. They are working in groups of 4 on a Lewis and Clark simulation. The students have different roles during this simulation including journal writer, captain, private, and interpreter. As they do their jobs, students are learning about the journey Lewis and Clark took. Ask your child to tell you what type of activities he/she has done for this simulation.
Summer Learning
One program some parents have done in the past is GRASP. There are online lessons for 4th grade in reading and math. You can find information about the cost and enrollment at http://grasp.grpublicschools.org/index.php .
