In math, the students have finished Unit 4 and began Unit 5.  Unit 5 is about geometry and angles. This past week the student used pattern blocks to measure interior angles.  Next week students will be learning how to use protractors to measure and draw angles.

In reading the students have read from the motion and matter textbook.  During reading groups, students are focusing on reading nonfiction articles and answering questions.  We will continue reading nonfiction articles next week.

During science, the students had a great time making small carts and changing one variable to make the cart move differently.  They also made tops using different materials and experimenting to make the tops spin longer. This past week the students experimented with mixing different materials together.  Next week the class will begin our geography unit.

In January the class has written one opinion paper and one short narrative fiction story.  The author Natalie Rompella has come twice to help the students learn about planning a fractured fairy tale and setting.  This will tie in nicely to our upcoming field trip to Little Mermaid. We have also started a new unit that is about writing about literature.  Next week, we will continue writing about literature.

Please remember to send your child ready to go outside daily.  That means they need snow pants, snow boots, a jacket, a hat, and gloves.  Students should also have extra clothes at school.

Next week PCCS will be celebrating CARES week and School Choice Week.  On Monday there will be an assembly. Monday student can wear their yellow scarfs if they have them.  Each day next week the class will be learning about CARES- Collaborate, Aware, Respect, Empower, and Sustain.

Notes from the Office

School Restrooms:   Many have you have been inquiring about the new changes in our single use bathrooms here on campus. As per State Law (“The Equitable Restrooms Act” effective  January 1, 2020), all single occupancy restrooms at all public schools are to be designated as Gender-Neutral. Rest assured, that each of our single use restrooms will continue to be monitored by staff and each of the doors have the appropriate hardware to ensure complete privacy. The locker areas/restrooms in the Gaylord Nelson Gym will remain labeled as Gender-Specific as they are equipped with multiple facilities. If you have further questions regarding this new public act, please feel free to contact Mr. Zamiar.

Safety Issue:  As the weather gets colder, the traffic on Amos Bennett seems to increase.  This creates a significant Safety Concern for our students. Please help us decrease this hazard by using the prescribed carpool procedures and not Amos Bennett Rd. to park, pick up, or drop off students before or after school.  It is a significant safety hazard to our students and neighbors. If you must park to pick up or drop off your child for any reason, please do so in the school’s designated parking areas. Thank you. – Tony Zamiar
