Reading

I have been reading a variety of poems to the students during reading to go along with our writing.  The students have been working on reading informational articles during reading groups.  Most groups were working on articles organized by main ideas and details.  Next week the students will work on cause and effect informational articles during reading groups.  I will also be testing the students’ reading levels.

Writing

The student have enjoyed writing poems with different themes recently.  The students wrote poems about love, the power of friendship, beauty, and forgiveness.  Next week students will continue to learn about poems, and they will be writing an anthology of poems based on a theme.  If you have any books of poems for children at home, feel free to have your child bring it to school so I can read it to the class.

Math

We have gotten a great start with Unit 5 in math about geometry.  The students are learning about shapes and angles.  Last week the students focused on learning to use a protractor.  Next week we will continue to learn about angles, polygons, and symmetry.  I recommend the students do IXL about these math concepts to improve their understanding.

Social Studies

The students learned about the lost colony of Roanoke.  The students had some great theories about what happened to the men of the colony.  This past week we learned about Jamestown.  Next week we will finish learning about Jamestown and then learn about the Plymouth Colony.  Look for information coming soon about our Colonial America Day.  I will need a lot of volunteers.

Hello PCCS Families,

2018 Jump Rope/ Hoops for Heart is up and running. We are raising money and awareness for the American Heart Association for research and ways to help those who have heart disease.

PCCS students can fundraise online by going to this website “ www2.heart.org/goto/prairiecrossing “ (this way they get more incentives) or cash or check donations. All proceeds will be going to the American Heart Association. Student packets have or will be going home this week so please take a moment to look through all of the new features this year has to offer and how to sign up. If you are to have any questions, please feel free to email Mr. Flinn (K-3 PE teacher) at any time and he will get you answers ASAP. Thank you for your generosity and all that you do!
