Spelling
Students did list 27 last week. The students had to write sentences with their spelling words. Next week we will be doing sort 28. There will be no spelling the week of Feb. 8.
Reading
Students are reading chapter books in small break out rooms. They are learning vocabulary words and answering questions about the book. Reading groups will continue this week. I strongly encourage the children to reread the chapters we are reading. Another suggestion is to make pictures of the events in the chapter as they are reading.
Writing
Students have been working on a new opinion writing assignment. They are using Google Slides with graphic organizers to help them organize their writing ideas. Next week the students will use the graphic organizer to write the essays.
Math
Students have finished Unit 4. We spent a couple of days last week reviewing concepts from Unit 4. Monday the students will begin Unit 5 about multiplication and division.
Science
This past week we began our unit about rocks, sand, and soil. The students WILL need the sand sent home again this week. I have it planned for Thursday afternoon, Feb 4. I recommend a container for the sand. The students will be off zoom doing the experiments. In the bag pick up, playdough and beans were sent home for a future science lesson.
Absent or Tardy
Just as expected of a typical school year, students are expected to make up work that was missed due to being absent or tardy. Almost all assignments are listed on Google Classroom. The videos of the lessons can be found in Google Classroom. If your child needs help completing an assignment we help them at the end of the day.
Hybrid Feb. 8
I will be sending out more information about hybrid instruction this coming week. The classroom schedule will change on Feb. 8th. One change you will see is recess/lunch is from 11:00 to 12:00. The times for specials have changed as well. I will be updating the daily supplies needed on the document listed below. This document is also available to all students on Google Classroom. As we move forward with this new method of teaching, please be patient as Mrs. Steinbeck and I navigate technology and the delivery of lessons.
