My Absence
I was gone on Thursday and Friday for medical reasons and will be gone for a few more days. If you need something before my return, please email Mr. Stewart at scottstewart@pccharterschool.org.
Math
The students are working on Unit 4. Before our break, the students learned about metric units. This past week the students began learning about fractions. In third grade, students learn about fractions on a number line and fractions of a whole. We will continue to learn about fractions this coming week.
Reading and Writing
During reading I have met with small groups to read a variety of nonfiction books. Before winter break the class heard a variety of books by Jannell Cannon including Stellaluna, Verdi, Crickwing, and Pinduli. The class also heard a variety of nonfiction books including Knights in Shining Armor, A Day and Night in the Desert, and Tornadoes. I also have been working with the class to read more than one passage that goes together, answering questions about both passages, and writing a response for both passages. We are combining many lessons to include reading and writing and will continue to do this in the coming weeks.
Science and Environmental Education
During science we began our unit on Soil, Rocks, and Landforms. The class looked at a variety of soils and learned about erosion and deposition using streambed tables. We will continue to learn more about rocks and minerals in the coming weeks.
During our EE time, Naomi came to teach the class about daylight hours. The students created a graph about how the daylight hours changed. We discussed how the change in daylight affects plants and animals.
Spelling
New spelling sorts are given every Friday. Please have your child bring the spelling to school every day. Students will continue to have spelling sorts this coming week. There will be no spelling the week before winter break.
Remind App and Communication
If you have not signed up for Remind, use this link. https://www.remind.com/join/87h6bak I often see these messages faster than an email.
Outdoor Clothing and Indoor Shoes
All students need to have indoor shoes at school. These can be your child’s PE shoes or another pair of shoes or slippers.
As the weather gets colder, please remind your child to dress for the weather. Students go outside unless it is below zero, pouring rain, or dangerous weather.
Please label all clothing and shoes with your child’s name.
