Ms. Hahn’s Class Newsletter
January 22, 2019
The class has finished Unit 4 in math. The focus after winter break was on fractions. I recommend having your child continue to learn about fractions using IXL and in everyday tasks. On Friday we started Unit 5 on multiplication and division. Look for a math family letter about Unit 5.
After winter break we began learning about rocks and soil. The students are learning about erosion and deposition using the stream bed tables. The got very excited when we simulated a slope and simulated a flood. Naomi taught the class about the types of rocks and how they are formed. Next week we will learn more about the properties of rocks. Naomi will be teaching the class about fossils.
In reading the students read from the science book that goes with our rock unit. I have taken a break from reading groups do to leveled reading tests on each student. Luckily Mrs. Steinbeck has been helping test students so we should finish next week. I am amazed to see how well the students are doing on their reading. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home.
In writing we finished the first informational writing piece. That we began before winter break. Last week the students researched about earthquakes, floods, or volcanoes. They will be using this information to make a small brochure that we will finish next week.
