Spelling
Students did list 25 last week. This week was tricky with all the homophones. The students had to write sentences with their spelling words. Next week we will be doing sort 26.
Reading
Students are reading chapter books in small break out rooms. They are learning vocabulary words and answering questions about the book. Reading groups will continue this week. I strongly encourage the children to reread the chapters we are reading. Another suggestion is to make pictures about the events in the chapter as they are reading.
Writing
Students began an opinion essay. The students have chosen their own topic to write about for this essay. We spent a couple days last week brainstorming different ideas for an opinion writing piece. This week the children will work on their introduction, details, and the conclusion.
Math
Last week the students solved problems that involved measurement. Partners worked on multi-digit addition by playing “Close to 1000.” Next week we’ll be learning about fractions. There will be some pages and lessons skipped for now in Unit 4. The math program, Bridges, made some recommendations on how to teach the standards for remote learning.
Science
Last week wrapped up my lessons about animal adaptations and inherited traits. Students learned that animals and plants have inherited traits that help them survive in different habitats. This week we will be learning about soil and rocks. The students will NOT need the sand sent home this week. My goal is to have the students use the sand the last week of January. I recommend a container for the soil. The experiments the students will do will be off zoom.
Absent or Tardy
Just as expected of a typical school year, students are expected to make up work that was missed due to being absent or tardy. Almost all assignments are listed on Google Classroom. The videos of the lessons can be found in Google Classroom. If your child needs help completing an assignment we help them at the end of the day.
