Ms. Hahn’s Class Newsletter

Feb. 10, 2019

The students are doing well with multiplication and division in Unit 5.  It is important that the students memorize the multiplication facts. I suggest quizzing your child in the car or at dinner.  You can also find many apps or online games. You can also find additional resources at https://www.mathlearningcenter.org/families/bridges2.  We should complete this unit in about two weeks.  Unit 6 will be about geometry including area and perimeter.

We have finished our rock and soil unit.  Now the students are learning about Illinois history in the 1700’s.  We are discussing how once the settlers came life for the Native Americans changed.  Lessons about Illinois history will continue next week. This will lead into our unit on pioneers in a few weeks.

During reading the students read from the rock and soil book.  The students learned about different text features and how to read nonfiction books.  Next week the students will begin reading different historical fiction books about pioneer life.  During whole group lessons the students are learning to compare two articles.

In writing we started opinion writing.  The students spent time last week thinking of different opinion writing topics and starting different essays.  They wrote about a problem and a solution. They also thought of someone or something that is noteworthy. It was great to see all their creative ideas.  Next week we will continue opinion writing.

We will have a Valentines Day party on Feb. 14.  If your child sends Valentines, please enough for all the students in the class.  Each child should bring a box to decorate. Also, please send a plate and napkin.
