Ms. Hahn’s Class Newsletter

The students have finished Unit 3 in math and just started Unit 4. The students will be learning about telling time to the minute and measurement. After winter break the students will be learning about fractions. I encourage you to talk about these topics with your child and have your child do these topics on IXL. Look for the math newsletter about Unit 4.
In social studies, the students finished learning about Native Peoples of Illinois. They are now learning about inherited traits in plants and animals. Last week the students learned how different animals have inherited traits that help them survive. We will continue learning about this in the coming weeks.
In reading the students are learning about nonfiction books. They are reading them in small groups and the whole group lesson is about nonfiction books. They are learning how to find the main idea and important details. I encourage all students to read more informational books.
In writing the students finished their fractured fairy tales and shared them with students in Mrs. Ottavoni’s class. The students are not writing an informational book about a topic of their choosing. We spent a few days thinking of how to organize the book and working on the table of contents. The students will continue to work on these next week. The students are able to tie this into their reading lessons.
The students are working on improving their technology skills. We try to have a lesson once a week about technology. The students are learning about Google Docs and Sheets. They have started typing 5 of their sentences. I have put this assignment on Google Classroom. I will continue to assign typing practice for homework. I encourage all students to go onto their Google accounts and learn what they can about Google Docs and Sheets.
