Spelling
Students did list 22 last week. As part of grammar, the students had to write sentences with their spelling words. They are working on using a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and end punctuation. Next week we will be doing sort 23 and the students will be writing sentences with their spelling words.
Reading
This week was a repeat of the previous week with new nonfiction passages. In groups, we are working on reading closely and finding the answer in the article or book. The students are also working on reading fluently and answering comprehension questions. Students are also reading books on Guided Readers. We are working with the students to read closely and how to find the answers in the passage or book. Next week we will continue reading groups the same way. After break the students will be reading a chapter book sent home on Friday.
Writing
Students put the final touches on their informational writing last week. Time was spent writing the final draft and adding text features. This coming week the students will be working on writing detailed paragraphs.
Math
It was amazing to see the students show their understanding of addition and subtraction this past week. When they solved the problems, they held them up the screen for us to see. The Unit 3 test will be on Tuesday. Unit 4 will start after winter break.
Science and Social Studies
This past week the students learned about Plains Indians. They learned how they used buffalo for many things. Next week the students will get to some social studies projects and make sample items from Plains Indians.
Naomi Lesson
Naomi has talked a few times with the students about how to use less natural resources. The students are recording how they are using less natural resources. They should be doing this for two weeks. This week Naomi will be discussing how artists draw/record nature vs how a scientist draws/records nature observations.
