Spelling

This past week the students did a practice spelling list. On Friday students were put into groups based on their spelling assessment. Going forward I will try to give out the new spelling list on Fridays after I give the spelling test. Students should be practicing spelling every night. There will be a spelling test most Fridays.

Reading

This week the focus has been on procedures for reading. All students have the login information for Raz Kids inside their assignment notebooks. The students listened to a few books by Chris VanAllsburg. During reading, we will read a few books about money and economics. I will be doing reading assessments for all students.

Writing

During writing this week the students wrote an information piece about how to have less trash. They also wrote a story based on a picture.  These will be used to help me plan my writing lessons and assess your child’s writing ability.

Math

This past week the students solved a variety of multiplication and division story problems. On Thursday and Friday, they learned about factors and multiples. I have students write down the math pages daily in their assignment notebooks. If they finish, students can cross them out. Next week the students will continue to work on multiplication and division

Science/Nature Time

This week the students continued to learn about the scientific process. They made currants dance and saved a worm named Fred. This week we will begin learning about Economics.

On Wednesday Naomi taught the class about phenology. Phenology is the study of plants and animals over time. The students will be looking at changes in nature throughout the year.

Reminders/Other

Please let your child know if there are nut products in the lunch. Your child may eat these during lunch away from other students and then wash their hands.

Please send at least two clean masks to school daily. It is also important that your child have a water bottle daily.

This year the computers will stay at school. They were sent home last year due to the pandemic and the delivery method of education.
