Math
In math, the students have almost finished our geometry unit. The students are learning about the attributes of quadrilaterals. They made riddles to describe a quadrilateral using our vocabulary words. We will be taking a test after Earth Week.
English Language Arts
During reading, we began our novel, A Perfect Place Joshua’s Pioneer Journal. The students are learning different vocabulary words, answering questions about the book, and completing writing prompts related to the book. The students are learning about life in the 1800s by reading this historical fiction book.
In writing, the students have begun a research paper about an endangered animal. They have completed the research and completed a graphic organizer. The next step will be writing the first draft.
Spelling lessons will continue after Earth Week. Students are expected to do their spelling homework including writing sentences.
Social Studies and Environmental Education
During social studies, the students pretended to travel west on a wagon train. They wrote about different situations that may have happened to pioneers on the trail. Along the way, there were different fates including burns, snake bites, too much rain, and not enough water. The students finished their last days of this simulation.
Now in social studies, we are learning about civics and government. The students will learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizens. They will learn about the different levels of government and the branches of the government.
Earth Week
Next week we will celebrate Earth Week. The students will be outside when possible next week. Please have your child dress for the weather and be prepared to be outside for extended periods of time. On Thursday we will be making snacks and students will need a cup and a plate. Friday we will be going to The Grove and be outside most of the day. Your child will not have a snack on Friday. We will have an outdoor lunch at 12:00.
