Mrs. Steinbeck’s Weekly Review

We had a good week in Ms. Hahn’s class. Read on to find out about a few of the things we did.

Specials

In art class they continued working on their clay pinch pots. Hopefully we get them into the kiln in the next couple of weeks. PE has been all about floor hockey which everyone seems to be enjoying. South American countries, knowing about their capitals and flags has been the topic in Spanish. The kids got to bring out instruments in music class.

Math/Reading/Writing/Science

The students are creating brochures in writing class. The topic is some type of landform or other focus from our science unit. For example, many kids are doing theirs on earthquakes or volcanoes. Speaking of science, we continue our unit on rocks, minerals, and landforms. We’ve done some fun hands on experiments, ask your son or daughter about them. In reading we’ve been focusing on listening to each of the kids read this week, so they have had extra time to work on spelling, writing, and reading independently. Finally, in math we have finished a unit on measuring and fractions. We will be starting a new unit on multiplication and division after the short break.

Other Things that Were Happening

Related to our science unit, Naomi stopped by to do a lesson on rocks. There was a lot of hands on fun because she brought a rock collection and she demonstrated how rocks are formed by using play doh!
Farm to Table was Wednesday and it was a delicious vegetarian shepherds pie. We also went outside for phenology on Friday and even got in an extra recess. Some of us had a nice time watching all of the birds that have been coming to our feeders. We even had a downy woodpecker visit this afternoon!

We had our class spelling bee this week. Evelina and Kate will be representing the class at the whole school event. We are proud of everyone who tried their best to be part of the bee. It’s such a good experience.

Next week is Peace Week/Spirit Week/School Choice Week – that’s a lot of weeks all rolled into one! Here is the schedule for Spirit Week:

Tuesday: Wear your yellow school choice scarves
Wednesday: Crazy hair/crazy hat day
Thursday: Dress in something related to magic – i.e. Harry Potter, dragons, unicorns, etc.
Friday: Spirit Day – wear your PCCS clothes

I think those are the highlights of the week, so let’s get to the Hawk’s Tickets. This week have your child tell me the names of my dogs. I have two, so they have to know that one is Kozmo and the other is Hobbes.

Have a fantastic long weekend!
