Ms. Hahn’s Class Newsletter

March 17, 2019

The students are doing really well on Unit 6 with geometry.  Some of the students are still struggling with the vocabulary words.  Some of the vocabulary words you can review at home are the following: parallel, perpendicular, acute angle, obtuse angle, right angle, trapezoid, parallelogram, rhombus, congruent, area, and perimeter.  There will be a test on Unit 6 on Thursday or Friday depending on how the class is doing. After spring break we will begin Unit 7 on larger multiplication and fractions.

In social studies the students are pretending to be part of a wagon train traveling in the 1800’s.  During this simulation they have to make different decisions for their wagon train. There are different fate cards read during social studies about things that could have happened to the pioneers.  On Tuesday we will be having an outdoor pioneer experience. We welcome volunteers from 1:45 to 3:15.

During reading the students have finishing their pioneer books.  They learned to answer questions in complete answers using part of the question.  Many students did well with the vocabulary words by using context clues. Every group had writing assignments with their books.  Any group not finished with their books will finish next week. The whole group lessons continued to be about compare and contrasting.  At the end of the week the students learned more about the theme of a short passage or story. We will continue to study theme next week.

I would like to thank all the parents for attending student led conferences.  The students worked hard to prepare for the conferences. It was great to see the students be so proud of their work.

We are getting ready for this year’s state assessment! This year, we will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. There will be a total of 5 sessions and will take one session per day. Our testing dates will be April 8 to April 12. Be sure that your child gets a good night’s rest, a hearty breakfast, and arrives to school on time so they are ready. If you have any questions, please contact Tony Zamiar. Please see the school’s Friday newsletter for more information about the assessment.
