Reading
During reading Ms. Harper has been teaching the class about primary and secondary sources during whole group lessons. In small group lessons, she taught the students about analyzing a character by actions, thoughts, dialog, and feelings. This week the class read two different passages about sled dogs and answered comprehension questions. We also modeled how to write a response and use information from both passages. Next week we will begin a whole class novel called Sled Dog School.
Writing
The class has been working hard on their informational writing pieces. They have worked on the introduction, adding quotes, body paragraphs, and adding details. Next week the students will work on the conclusion and editing.
Math
The students have finished Unit 4 in math about adding and subtracting. They also learned about kilograms, grams, meters, kilometers, pounds, and ounces. The math test will be on Monday. Then we will begin Unit 5 on geometry and angles. We will also be looking at the IAR practice tests.
Nature Time, Science
During nature time we had fun playing in the snow two weeks ago. This week Naomi had the students work in groups to create a shelter for an animal. Each group was given warm water in a container to see if they created a warm space for an animal.
In science the students learned about motion with a variety of activities. During this unit the students got to make predictions or theories about what would happen if they changed something in their design. Then the students got to create and try out different idea.s The students made paper twirly birds and tops. They ended the unit with making carts with different materials. You can see pictures in the Google folder.

Other
Please send in winter clothes for your child to keep at school. A few students needed new clothes and only had shorts in their lockers. We have recess outside if the wind chill is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Please send snow pants, boots, a hat, and gloves daily.
