Hybrid Information
The new hybrid schedule begins Monday, Feb. 8th. Hybrid Schedule If your child is in the A group, he/she follows the A schedule when at home and in person. The students who are in the B group follow the B schedule. All students will be on the same schedule whether remote or in person. As we adjust to the new schedule, we may have bumps in the road. We will all figure out the new schedule together.
In person students should arrive between 7:40 and 8:00. Remember that drop off in the morning is very long. It can be from the Carson (5-8) building to in front of the gym. There is no morning recess. Please have your child head to the door nearest the playground. Carpool begins at 3:00. Carpool will be in front of the gym like typical years.
Whether you are working at school or remotely, a list of daily supplies can be found at this link. Daily Material List In person students will need to bring a lunch, a water bottle, winter gear, and 2 masks daily. There will be no microwaves available for students and no snack time.
Students who are remote, should log into zoom at 8:00. The students in the classroom will have zoom projected on the screen when it is needed. There may be times students use their computers to log into zoom at school to work with small groups. In person students will also use their computer for some assignments.
Information for Next Week
Next week the weather will likely be very cold. Students in person will probably have indoor recess. Please send winter gear in case it is warm enough to go outside for a short period of time.
Thursday is an early release day. I will follow the schedule for Thursday until 1:00, but we will do writing instead of science. The class will have time for recess and lunch.
Mrs. Steinbeck and other staff will be in the classroom as I work remotely due to being quarantined.
Spelling
Students did list 28 last week. There will be no spelling the week of Feb. 8. The students will have some different activities to do during spelling time this week.
Reading
Students are reading chapter books in small break out rooms. They are learning vocabulary words and answering questions about the book. Reading groups will continue this week. I strongly encourage the children to reread the chapters we are reading. Another suggestion is to make pictures of the events in the chapter as they are reading.
Writing
Students have finished their opinion writing essays. Next week we will take a break from opinion writing. The students will be reviewing and researching different habitats in Illinois. This is in preparation for an upcoming writing assignment about fractured fairy tales.
Math
Students have been working on multiplication and division. Students have been using arrays and pictures to solve problems. The students wrote their own story problems for classmates to solve that involved multiplication and division. Next week the students will continue working on multiplication story problems.
Science
This past week was an exciting one for the students. We learned about erosion and deposition using stream bed tables. As you know, students got to use their sand to learn about erosion and deposition. The students are now done with the sand. Next week we will begin learning about rocks. Tuesday students will need the two different colors of playdough sent home in a previous pick up. They will also need something to cut the playdough.
Absent or Tardy
Just as expected of a typical school year, students are expected to make up work that was missed due to being absent or tardy. Almost all assignments are listed on Google Classroom. The videos of the lessons can be found in Google Classroom. If your child needs help completing an assignment we help them at the end of the day.
