Week 7

Wow, it’s the end of September already! This week in science, we’ve learned more about wetlands; we hiked to a wetland and made marsh soup in class. We planted some spinach seeds in our garden, too. We’ve been working on strengthening our writing skills – capitalization, commas, and apostrophes – and learning about writing narratives.  In reading, we introduced our reading groups: 3rd graders are reading The Chocolate Touch and 4th graders are reading Underworld. Each book is based on Greek myths. They’ll be doing reading from those books daily, learning new vocabulary, and answering comprehension questions. Our 4th grade math students have been working on place value and standard and expanded form of multi-digit numbers.

Next week will be very busy! Earth Keepers will be all day Wednesday and Thursday at The Lockhart Nature Center in Lake Forest. We will also be doing Earth Keeper activities at school on Friday. Please make sure that your child comes to school in weather appropriate clothes that can get dirty – we will be outside all day!! In addition, please do not send heat ups or nuts in lunches for Wed and Thurs.

Things to remember:

  • There is a new way to sign up to volunteer in our classroom! Please check out our last post for more information!
  • Wednesday October 5th – Earth Keepers all day – make sure to dress for the weather and wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty in! Cold lunches and no nuts, please!
  • Thursday October 6th – Earth Keepers all day – make sure to dress for the weather and wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty in! Cold lunches and no nuts, please!
  • Friday October 7th – Earth Keepers for the part of the day at school – again make sure to dress for the weather and wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty in!

**A note from the office**

PCCS is sponsoring a food drive to benefit our local food pantries, in Warren and Fremont Townships. Please consider helping our local neighbors by donating a few items. See this link for a list of items that are in higher demand. The food drive begins on Monday, October 3rd and goes through Friday, October 21st.  Canned and nonperishable food items can be dropped off at morning carpool and also in the bins outside the school office. Thank You!
