Week 28

This week may have been short, but it was definitely jam-packed! Tuesday was especially busy, but fun! We had a PBIS celebration and the students had a blast bouncing in the bouncy house, going through the obstacle course, and scooting on scooters. The Valentine’s Party was also a great time. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who sent in items, or came in to help out! The students had a blast making Valentine boxes and making hot cocoa. In science this week, the students continued learning about rocks, soils, and minerals. We finished up a pretty cool experiment, which demonstrated the effects of a flood on different landscapes. Ms. Naomi also came in on Wednesday for a special lesson on fossils! Writing was really fun for the students this week. After only getting a short introduction on speeches and persuasive writing, the students speed wrote a persuasive speech about why they should get more daily recess time. On Wednesday, they performed their speech for Mr. Zamiar and it was fantastic! They earned extra recess in the afternoon – such a convincing speech! The fourth graders took their fraction retake this week, and then were introduced to improper fractions and mixed numbers, what fun!

Next week is another short week – no school on Monday – Happy Presidents’ Day! We’ll be jumping back into spelling on Tuesday after having this week off. After their short and amazing introduction to persuasive writing, the students will continue honing their persuasive skills. In science, we’ll begin learning about rapid changes in the Earth. Fourth graders will continue their work on mixed numbers and improper fractions. On Friday, we will be going on our field trip to the Waukegan Public Library to meet our book “buddies” from Waukegan! Please make sure that you send your student with a cold lunch and no peanuts – thanks!
