Happy December! It is hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner. This week, our 4th graders participated in the Geography Bee. One winner and one runner-up were chosen. Good luck to them in the next round! Here is the flyer for our upcoming Winter Sing. We hope you’ll join us!
This week, in writing, we developed more of our opinion/persuasive papers. The 3rd and and 4th graders also had the chance to chat with their writing partners about their work, and what improvements they could make. In science, we are getting towards the end of our sound unit. Everyone continues to show excitement each time they get the chance to participate in a hands-on experiment. It has been noisy, but exciting during these experiments! The 4th grade math students have switched their focus to decimals and decimal place value. It was a bit of a struggle to identify the correct place value name for some of the digits when it included decimals, but we spent a day reviewing. The 4th graders seem to be a lot more comfortable identifying place value names now!
Next week, we will continue to talk about fraction and decimal relationships. Towards the end of the week, we will have our unit test! In writing, we will be finishing our first opinion papers. Students will share with the class, if they choose to. Then, we will be brainstorming ways to write an opinion/persuasive paper about people in our lives. In science, our sound unit will end, and we will begin our unit on light. Our Holiday Bazaar will be next week, so please make sure that you have filled your child’s envelopes (they were passed out this week) with money and name tags. Have a wonderful weekend!
