Spelling Sorts: April 27th – May 1st (*New Group Names*)

When students pick the spelling group names, you never know what you’re going to get! This round of names brought the same variety… ūüôā

Below you will find the new names of our five spelling groups (students chose their group names today and should have this name written on the¬†homework sheet that went home this afternoon). Listed underneath each group, you will find a link for the spelling list (in case words didn’t make it home) as well as the “key.” Each week, this key will provide the words sorted into their correct categories, the patterns students should be noticing, and other important information to support the students as they practice their sorts. I hope this will be a helpful guide towards success in spelling! The most important aspect of Words Their Way is the understanding of patterns occurring in words. Students will begin to discover how¬†patterns affect pronunciation, and will support them as they attempt words in writing that are outside of their weekly lists (but show those same patterns!).

As a reminder on homework: Students are not required to complete the activities on the specific days listed in the homework. This is a suggested timeline so they are practicing their words throughout the week, but things come up! Students may do more than one activity on a given day in case an evening is especially busy.
