Sixth Grade Gazette 12/2/16

Dear parents,

I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was filled with turkey, stuffing, and rest! With everyone back for a few weeks before winter break, here’s a quick rundown of what we have been doing during our first week back at PCCS. In ELA, students are reading about a specific accomplished person in history, ranging from Martin Luther King Jr. to Lucille Ball to John D. Rockefeller. Soon, they will give a speech as their famous person while either dressed up as him/her or holding an empty bottle that resembles him/her. Feel free to ask your child who they are researching!

In Social Studies, we have begun our national parks unit by watching a video on some of the famous and well known national parks throughout the U.S. As for our gym-naming election, the votes are being tallied and the name will be revealed soon! Additionally, everyone created posters in Spanish class to differentiate between two verbs that both mean ‘to be’ — ser & estar. The posters are now hung up around the classroom and showcase everyone’s great artistic abilities.

Our Veterans are taking the lead this year and heading up the Toys for Tots Drive. Toys for Tots benefits a number of local agencies and townships, providing needy children with a little extra holiday cheer. We will have a Toys for Tots Collection Box in the Office Waiting Room beginning Monday. Please consider donating a new toy, game or book for our local children in need. No donation is too small! Thank you for your generosity!

Please take a few minutes and share your opinions about PCCS through the 5 Essentials Survey. This survey is available for parents to take now through January 16, 2017. We will need 20% of our parents to complete the survey in order for survey results to be shared. We would love to have 100% parent input! Please share your thoughts!
