This past week, we were able to have our first meeting with our Buddy Class – Mrs. Neil’s Class! Traditionally, this has been called a Book Buddy class, but we are looking to expand it and make it a lot more than that over the course of the next year. While we will still be doing some of the traditional activities such as reading with each other and doing some activities more rooted in reading, we will also be working on incorporating more of what makes Prairie Crossing the school it is. We will be working on some Green Challenges together, working on some environmental education together, and maybe even doing some math activities together. It should be a lot of fun.
This first meeting was all about getting to know our buddies. They came to our classroom with name cards introducing themselves to their buddy. We then worked together on filling out a special book that looked at what the two students may have in common. It touched on such things as their favorite color, the number of people in their family, their favorite food, and the like. It ended with the two students finding one thing they had in common and writing / drawing about it. The students had a great time and worked very hard. We cannot wait until our next visit!
