Today we used shapes to make AB patterns. Then the students glued down the pattern with cut out shapes and labeled the shapes 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Each student decided what numbers fell under their “a” shapes and which numbers were under their “b” shapes. Then we talked about how we could use what we saw in the pattern to be able to guess numbers further out. For example, our “b” shapes were all even numbers, so we could know that our 68th shapes would be a “b” shape because it is an even number.
