Math Update 2/5

Today our focus was on missing part story problems. This type of story problem usually is challenging for the students because they are so used to putting the answer that is the end result, not one of the addends.  An example of this type of problem is: “I have 5 pennies. I gave some to Trevor. Now I have 3 pennies left. How many pennies did I give to Trevor?”  These are very tricky for students to give a correctly labeled answer as well. We’ll continue to work on missing part story problems in class. Most students should be bringing home their worksheet from today, so take some time to have your child explain how they solved some of their story problems today.
