Week 37

Happy Arbor Day! We had a great assembly this morning and the whole school watched a tree being planted outside of the Wright School House! This week has flown by. We were back to a normal schedule and have gotten right back into the swing of things. In writing, we started our fairy tale unit! We read different versions of The Three Billy Goats GruffCinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. Students are choosing from these three stories and creating their own version! They have some really cool ideas and we can’t wait to see them all on paper. In Social Studies, the students have learned more about the history of Illinois. We jumped right back into our Pioneer books for reading! Joshua’s Diary finished their book; the kids liked the bittersweet ending. The Little House on the Prairie group is finishing up their book next Wednesday! This group is excited to see what happens next. Our 4th grade math students started a whole new unit: decimals. They’ve done a great job converting their knowledge from fractions to decimals.

Next week is Native American Week! Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we are going to be joining the rest of the 3/4 grade band in different activities. Skip, a member of the Potawatomi Tribe, will be here all week to lead us on a great adventure! If you have the time, please please please sign up to volunteer during the week. We would love to have 4 parent volunteers per activity slot! We are definitely in need of a few more volunteers. Wednesday will be a normal Early Release day – our only sense of a normal routine during the week. It’s going to be a great, fun week; be ready to have some tired kiddos at the end of the day!
