Classroom News

Hello Families,

I hope you are doing well and had a fantastic week! The ABC Countdown is in full motion. It’s been fun watching students collaborate and add creative touches on each days theme. On Monday, all math classes are cooking during their regularly scheduled classes. This will be our final cooking class of the school year. We are making vegan granola bars for students to enjoy!

Math A
Students determine that a right rectangular prism has six faces: top and bottom, front and back, and two sides. They determine that surface area is obtained by adding the areas of all the faces and develop the formula 𝑆A = 2𝑙 + 2𝑙ℎ + 2𝑤ℎ.  Students develop and apply the formula for the surface area of a cube as 𝑆A = 6𝑠2. Students calculate volume using the formula V=l * w * h or V= area of base * height. Students final assessment of the school year will take place on Thursday, May 26th. Students will complete a study guide in class on Monday and may also study Module 5 concepts in their workbooks.

Math B
Students determine the area of composite figures in real-life contextual situations using composition and decomposition of polygons and circular regions. Students also use conditions that determine a unique triangle to construct viable arguments that angle measures and lengths are equal between triangles.

Science
Students completed their Monster projects and presented them to the class. Their projects are on display in the hallway for other classes to see and will come home next week. Students used what they learned about Punnett squares and inherited traits to create a monster based on the traits of two parents. Then, they provided an environment, adaptations, and mutations to their monster. Students completed the project by reflecting on their experience in their ISN’s and sharing it with the class.
