Classroom News

Hello Families,
Students in all math classes cooked on Thursday. They made Ramen and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Students did a fantastic job collaborating with one another from start to finish. Also, our reduced screen time week in class went really well, with students using their study hall time more wisely and engaging in fruitful conversations. On Monday, students will submit a post-reflection that they will be able to compare to their pre-reflection thoughts. We hope to move forward with a tech-conscious, reduced screen time frame of mind in the classroom.
Math A
Students built and clarified the relationship of division and subtraction by determining that 12 ÷ 𝑥 = 4 means 12 − 𝑥 − 𝑥 − 𝑥 − 𝑥 = 0. They also began the study of exponents.

Math B
Students understand the terms original price, selling price, markup, markdown, markup rate, and markdown rate.  Students identify the original price as the whole and use their knowledge of percent and proportional relationships to solve multi-step markup and markdown problems.  Students understand equations for markup and markdown problems and use them to solve for unknown quantities in such scenarios.
Math C
Students use the formula for the volume of a right rectangular prism to answer questions about the capacity of tanks.  Students compute volumes of right prisms involving fractional values for length.
Science
Students completed, and presented, their Diorama projects in class this week. Our final workpiece for our Oceans unit is an essay that will be completed in class next week. Then, we will move onto Unit 5: Life Systems.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Thank you and have a fantastic weekend!
