Classroom News

Good Morning Families,
In honor of the fallen heroes on 9/11, PCCS had a collective moment of silence on Friday. May we all remember and never forget.
Delicious Math was a huge success! Students worked together in small groups following recipes to make apple crisp and apple muffins. I’ve included photos Here. All of the apples came from our school apple trees located by the Labyrinth.
Mark your calendars! 6th grade Curriculum night will be held virtually on Thursday 9/16 at 6pm. Please join Ms. Turner and I on this Zoom link. We look forward to seeing you then.
In other news, This upcoming Friday, the 5th and 6th graders will make a pasta/tomato sauce and garden salad using vegetables from our gardens for our annual Tomato Jubilee. Each student will be able to “taste” the meal we create, but should bring their regular lunch as well. ***Please send an extra tupperware or small plate/utensil with your student to use for Friday’s Tomato Jubilee. ***
Math A:
Students continued learning about the relationship between ratios and fractions in the context of ratios A:B and fractions A/B. Next week, students will use the value of a ratio to solve ratio problems using real-world contexts.
Math B:
Students continued learning about proportional and non-proportional relationships. Students took a mid-module assessment and continued to learn about unit rates. Next week, we will use ratio tables to compute unit rates associated with ratio of fractions in the context of measured quantities.
Math C:
Students continued learning about proportional relationships. Students are able to find equivalent ratios given the total quantity. Students are able to find unit rates given ratios of fractions. Next week, students will determine solutions to multi-step ratio problems.
Science:
Students continued to learn about The Scientific Method and were introduced to Scientific Theories and Laws by working in small groups testing theories. We will continue to learn about, and test, theories and laws this upcoming week.
