Classroom News

Good Morning,
Our class been busy reviewing and modeling our school-wide PBIS behavior expectations in the classroom, as well as other parts of the building.
Science/SS
We completed our Scientific Method studies with a “mystery box” experiment in class. Students worked in small groups to analyze properties of multiple boxes to determine what the mystery object inside was. We are now learning about Economics.
Math
4th graders are learning about prime and composite numbers and how to factor composite numbers using a factor rainbow. Students made a classroom “factor book’ from 1-36 for reference by working in pairs. Students will continue to build multiplication and division skills using several strategies throughout Unit 1. Students do have homework throughout the school week. I encourage you to check your students assignment notebook each night, as well as, Mrs. O’s homework calendar for assignments.
Writing
Students completed three writing prompts including narrative, informative, and opinion. These prompts are used as a fall baseline and we will begin our narrative writing unit in class on Tuesday.
Daily 5
In addition to read to self, students are reading to someone and building stamina doing so. We also have our “word of the day” where we build a sentence and study the meaning of a word. Next week, we will incorporate listen to reading and spelling into our daily 5 stations. Please make sure that your student has headphones at school. They will need these for this station.
