Classroom News

Hello Families,
We are completing IAR testing this week (4/8-4/12). There will be limited homework and no spelling.  It is really important your child has good rest each night, has a good breakfast, and arrives to school on time. This will help them do their best.
Each student should have a working set of headphones to use during the test. Please check with your child to make sure their school headphones are working and they have headphones at school.
Also, as a special privilege, we are allowing 3rd and 4th graders to bring their own mints to enjoy during testing sessions. If your child would like to partake in this, please send a small amount with them each day this week.
In Social Studies/Science, we completed our Pioneer Simulation. Students did a fabulous job learning about the pioneers and how they lived. They were sad to have the pioneer simulation end. Students not only learned about history, they learned about teamwork, making decisions as a group, and trial and error. We’re now learning about our Journey to Statehood.
In 4th grade Math, we are working hard on division and multiplication strategies using arrays, ratio tables, and standard algorithms. Please have your student study these skills at home too. They may use IXL, flash cards, or online math games. Additionally, we continue to learn about fractions.
There will be NO spelling this week due to IAR testing.
In reading, we just completed our small reading groups about Weather, and its effects. We will begin small groups after testing this week. Additionally, we are working on our mobile projects from our leveled novel readings. We will complete these this week. Students are reflecting on the plot, theme, setting, and characters.
In writing, students completed their opinion/persuasive essay and presented them to the class. I am incredibly proud and impressed by each students essay and their speech in front of the class. They did a beautiful job and worked on their typing skills as well. We will begin our next unit this week.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Don’t forget that there is an early release this Wednesday, April 10th. Have a great evening!
