Classroom News

Good Afternoon,
I hope you all are enjoying these last couple days of Spring break. School will resume on Monday, April 1st.
  • Important Dates: students will take the IAR test (Illinois Assessment of Readiness), which is replacing our previous PARCC testing statewide April 8th-12th (Monday-Friday).
  • We will also be planting lettuce in our garden beds on Monday, April 1st.
  • Early Release on Wednesday, April 10th.
Thank you to our parent volunteers for donating items and assisting in our Pioneer simulation. Our class was incredibly successful in building fires, boiling water, and making tea for their wagon group. In Social Studies, we will continue to journey along the Hacker Trail in search of better land. The wagon groups are working hard in teams a learning about the trials and tribulations of the Pioneers. We will complete this simulation after spring break and then move into our next Science unit of Weather.
In 4th grade Math, students are working on perimeter, area, multi-digit multiplication, and division. Students have a study guide (HC 129-130) and should review these skills over break, as well as, multiplication facts. These facts are imperative for success in mathematics. We will take our Unit 6 Assessment on Tuesday, April 2nd.Students may use IXL, flash cards, or the method of their choice.
In Reading, students will work on their novel projects this week in class. We will also continue our daily 5 regimen, reading to self, listening to reading, and reading with  a partner. Additionally, students work in a small reading group with me and practice their word work.
In Writing, students will continue to write an opinion piece that they will turn into a persuasive essay. Students are working hard on paragraph structure, expanding on topics, and introduction and conclusion paragraphs. We will also continue to work on sentence structure and grammar.
Please continue to encourage your student to work on their Spelling words each night, practicing the meaning and spelling of each word. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Homework assignments are updated daily and can be found here. I look forward to class resuming on Monday. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
