Classroom News

Good Evening,
Thank you all for making our classroom Valentines Day special for all of the students and Mr. Siegel and I. Students had a great time celebrating and sharing valentines with one another. Don’t forget that tomorrow is Farm to Table in the barn. Our class will arrive at 10:55 for lunch. Please send in tableware for your student if they are participating.
In Reading, we’ve started our novel reading groups. Students are assigned daily reading in class and may have pages to complete at home if needed. We are working in small groups building comprehension skills and extended responses from our texts.
In Spelling, students continue to receive a weekly spelling sort. Please encourage your student to study the spelling and meaning of each word a few times each night. These words help build vocabulary skills and enhance our writing pieces.
In Social Studies, we are studying early Illinois. Students are learning about early pioneers, Indians, and voyageurs. We will have a short assessment on Friday prior to beginning a new unit next week.
In writing, we’ve completed our Informational papers and look forward to sharing them with you at Spring conferences. Students put a lot of work into these papers and I am so proud of the finished products. We are currently working on vocabulary and grammar using connections to our curriculum. Students write responses to short passages and practice grammar skills during this time as we build on our writing skills.
In 4th grade Math, we are learning about angles and their relationship to different shapes. We will continue to find the area and perimeter of shapes with specific angles, human angles, and geometry angles around fixed points. On Friday of this week students will co-create a study guide for our unit assessment on Monday.
Please check my homework calendar often for assignments, as well as, your students assignment notebook. Thank you for your continued partnership! Have a restful evening.
