Classroom News

Good Afternoon,
I hope this email finds you well! I hope all of you had a wonderful break. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful gifts. It means so much to me. I am eager to see your student tomorrow and get back into the swing of things. We have a busy week of learning ahead and an Early Release of Friday.
In Spelling, we will continue our Word Work with weekly spelling lists. I ask that you have your student study the spelling of the word, meaning of the word, and correct way to use the word in a sentence. We will work on these skills in class as well each day. Third grade students should choose 10 words to place in a sentence each week and Fourth grade students should choose 15 words for sentences. These are due on Friday each week.
In Writing, we will continue working on Informative Essays. Students are learning techniques to gather their information using a graphic organizer, using subheadings in paragraphs, and how to create an introduction paragraph.
In our small group during Daily 5, students will begin reading a new leveled novel this week. Please be sure to check the homework calendar for any daily reading assignments that may not have been completed in class.
In Science/SS, we will complete our Unit on Animal/Plant adaptations and begin our Rock, Sand, and Soil Unit, as well as, the study of Landforms.
In Fourth grade Math, we will review and then continue to study liquid volume, mass, and data range. I encourage your student to use IXL 15 minutes each day using the “recommendation” portion when they do not have in class homework. This will help build on their individual math skills. Additionally, please have your student continue to practice their multiplication skills at home as well.
Prior to break, students met with their book buddies and discussed nutrition and natural food sources. They shared a list of items they have tried, would like to try, and have never tried before. It was really great watching our 3/4 class interact with the 7th graders.
Thank you again for your continued partnership! Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing your student tomorrow morning.
