Classroom News

Good Afternoon,
Happy Snow Day to you all! I hope thisĀ email finds you well and warm. It was great seeing many of you at conferences. Prior to the Holiday break, students enjoyed popcorn and movie (Boss Baby) as a reward for earning so many consecutive positive tallies. We are working towards another movie/popcorn goal. Please continue to encourage positive classroom behavior at home.
Congratulations to our 4th Grade Geo Bee Runner Up Everett Andrews! We are proud of you and all of the 4th graders.
In Science/SS:
Students are learning about early Illinois natives. We will continue learning about different tribes and how they used the land in the upcoming week. We just finished learning about the Plain Indians and will begin learning about the Woodland Indians this week.
In Reading/Writing:
Students are learning about punctuation, writing mechanics, and paragraph structure. In addition, students read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, and work within small groups practicing reading/writing skills. Students are finishing up their Fractured Fairytales and will share their finished pieces with another classroom prior to bringing them home to share with you. We will begin reading small group novels in the next couple of weeks.
In Spelling:
Students will continue to bring home weekly spelling lists. Please make sure that your student is studying the meaning of each word, practicing spelling, and also the use of each word in a sentence. 3rd grade is required to write 10 sentences and 4th grade is required to write 15 sentences each week, due on Friday.
In Technology:
Students continue to use Typing.com to practice typing skills using home-row with their hands.
In 4th Grade Math:
Students continue to learn about decimals and fractions. We continue to model the relationship between fractions and decimals, add and subtract them, learn about the size of fractions, and how to place them on a number line. Students will take their Unit Assessment this Friday. I encourage students to continue studying using IXL on evenings that they don’t have math homework.
Please remember to send in Snow pants, hats, gloves, and winter weather gear as we do go outside for recess and outdoor learning activities. Have a great rest of your day. Thank you for your partnership!
