This week, we read another book from Brad Meltzer’s Ordinary People Change the World series – I am Abraham Lincoln. We learned from President Lincoln that we should speak up for others. We saw him do this when he came across some boys putting hot coals on turtles backs. We saw this when he confronted a gang of bullies that he met when he first moved to Illinois. We saw this when he became President and led the nation through the Civil War.
We moved into a discussion about whether we have ever spoken up for someone else and what it felt like when we did. The students were very open about it, and they did a great job. We will be doing more with this book and speaking up for others over the next couple of weeks.
