A Week to be Thankful

As we prepare to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I just wanted to take a moment and thank you all for the many things you do as parents and as volunteers at our school. Supporting your children at home – both emotionally and academically – makes such a big difference at school. Without the important partnership we share with you, we would not be able to accomplish the many goals and objectives we target to provide each student with a solid year of growth. In addition, the wide variety of ways you contribute to our school, from volunteering at Farm to Table to sending in donations for the Lake County Honor flight, means so much to us and the entire PCCS staff. Thank you!!!
We will have Early Release days on both Monday and Tuesday this week, with no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. On Monday Mrs. Neil’s class will be taking a Muir Trek with Ms. Naomi and Ms. Flaig from 10 -12, and Mr. Barber’s class will repeat the same on Tuesday. Imitating the nature hikes that John Muir was so fond of, we hope to give the students an opportunity to explore our natural surroundings in a personal way. We plan to be outside for the entire two hours, so please be sure to send your child with appropriate outdoor wear, including rain or snow boots.
Also this week we will hold our classroom Geography Bee. Mr. Barber’s Bee will be on Monday and Mrs. Neil’s Bee will be on Tuesday. You may wish to refer your students to this resource of study materials if you haven’t done so already. We will select a winner and a runner up for each classroom. The winners of our classroom Geography Bees will go on to compete at the school wide level.
The students are currently working on their final reflection and writing a five paragraph essay on Esperanza Rising in ELA. They have completed three different graphic organizers to plan their essays, and the final draft is due on Tuesday. It should be shared with Mrs. Neil via Google Classroom or as a Google Doc. This essay has been a large undertaking, so any supplemental support you can give your student at home would be much appreciated.
The PCCS Drama Club is happy to announce their first musical: The Lion King Jr.! The rehearsals start January 30 and run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 4-5:30 pm until the performance on Friday, March 23rd. Sign up sheets can be found on the PCCS website. The deadline to sign up is December 22nd. You won’t want to miss this one! If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Fiorelli – kfiorelli@pccharterschool.org or Ms. Klug – rklug@pccharterschool.org.
And finally, we look forward to meeting with you and your students at conferences this Monday and Tuesday. We will hold our Scholastic Book Fair during this time, so please consider allowing some extra time to browse the selection.
