I hope that your child enjoyed their first week of kindergarten! Mrs. Byrd and I are enjoying getting to know the students, and they are doing a nice job with all of the new routines. Here are some highlights to note:
We eat one time during the day, at 10:00. Please remember to attach a colorful string to your child’s lunchbox if they have any items containing nuts of any kind. Please read the labels on products, looking to see whether the product is manufactured in a facility containing nuts. Thank you for keeping our school safe for those with allergies.
Keep sending in any remaining supplies that your child is missing. I will be sending home reminders next week for missing items.
Thank you for your patience as everyone gets used to Carpool. I assure you that it will get easier and quicker over the next week or so as everyone learns the routine. Please remember that when you drop off your child in the morning, either drive through and drop off your child in the carpool line, or park in the Comstock parking lot if you choose to walk your child to Market Square(the middle section is best so you can get out easier). Beginning at 7:40, there will always be staff members waiting in Market Square to greet and supervise students.
Please do not park in the East lot, called Comstock parking. The Instructional Assistants arrive at school at the same time as the students and have been instructed to park in that lot. If you park there to walk your child to Market Square, those IA’s will not have a place to park and will be late to their classrooms.
We love volunteers in kindergarten! The Volunteer calendar is available on both the PCCS website and SeeSaw.
The students are learning all about expected behaviors at Prairie Crossing, and Douglas the Dog, our resident PBIS puppet friend, is teaching them all about being respectful, responsible, and safe as school. I am so pleased with how quickly the kids are understanding and implementing positive behaviors this first week!
Ms. Naomi introduced herself to the students this week, and led them on a nature sensory walk. The students also harvested tomatoes and carrots earlier in the week. Today they explored the Outdoor Classroom, looking for similarities and differences around them. We ended up having some beautiful weather for our outdoor activities.
