Wow! What a great first week we had at school. Your students are quickly learning the new routines of the Carson building and getting to know their new classmates. Everyone in 5th grade should now have a classroom job and received a direct deposit of their first paycheck on Friday. These transactions are made through a virtual banking system called mykidsbank, and the students should get in the habit of checking their balances online periodically. If you’d like more information, please ask your child to share the details of our classroom economy with you!
We are close to receiving all of the Chromebook agreement forms located in the 1:1 Technology Parent/Student Handbook from the 5th grade parents. Once they are all signed and returned, we will issue a Chromebook to each student. Please note that if you did not agree to the option of your child bringing home his/her Chromebook at night, we will keep them safely stored in the classroom at the end of the day.
Also, picture day is on Tuesday. Order forms were sent home last week, but there is also an option to order online if that is more convenient for you. Please see this Letter to Parents for more information about online ordering.
Both 5th grade classes will be participating in the Illinois Bluestem Reader’s Choice Award Program (a statewide initiative) this year. Please this link to see a list of books included in the program. If your students read at least four books, they will be eligible to vote for their favorite, and if they read more than four, they will be rewarded with other school sponsored incentives. These books can easily be found at your local library and most have been displayed in a prominent area within the Children’s Department.
