Turner Tribune 8/18/17

Greetings families,

It was a fun-filled first week of 6th grade in our room. In social studies, students have been enjoying making inferences based on artifacts their peers brought in their artifact bags. Students will soon be applying the skills of using evidence and reasoning to make claims when we begin our “Dig” unit on anthropology and culture.

In ELA, students have started writer’s workshop with our first unit of study, the Narrative. They have begun drafts of both personal and imaginative stories. Ask them about “spider-legs” (as a form of editing their writing). Also in ELA, students have been working on fluency-building skills through Reader’s Theater. Performances will take place early next week.

Look for a weekly email on Fridays, summarizing what we have been doing in class and listing some future events happening at school. Students at carpool voted that this year’s round of weekly emails be known as the “Turner Tribune”.

  • Monday 8/21: Band Assembly in AM, Eclipse Assembly in PM
  • Tuesday 8/22: Math NWEA during class (make-ups Friday)
  • Thursday 8/24: ELA NWEA during class (make-ups Friday)
  • Monday 8/28: Picture Day in AM
