Turner Tribune 2/9/18

Hello families,

Prior to our academic updates, I want to take a moment to share that the themes of kindness and inclusion have been challenging our class community recently. As you probably know, when students feel safe and respected it promotes a positive class culture and maximizes learning opportunities. I encourage you to talk with your child about the themes mentioned above and remind them that PCCS staff are here to listen and help if someone sees/hears something that is not okay. I genuinely appreciate your partnership in addressing these recent challenges. Together everyone achieves more! 🙂

In ELA, students have been working on their dystopian narratives, creating their own futuristic culture and a story to explore it. They have also been continuing their dystopian novels and weekly packet + creative roles (students get to chose their role each week; options can be viewed here). In Social Studies, students presented their 3D maps of the Nile and will take their quiz on Monday (study guide here). Next up, we will be moving to “master of knowledge” presentations. For this, each student will become a “master” of one topic and create a mini-lesson & activity to explain their topic to a small group of peers. In our specials, we have continued playing pickleball (PE), begun a new landscape color value project (Art), created presentations on family members’ birthdays (Spanish), and continued discussing biofeedback and the dangers of smoking (Health).

Lastly, a celebration update: there will not be a Valentine’s Day party/passing out of cards next week. Instead we will return to the 5/6 tradition of having a pre-Spring Break party in March. That said, on Wed 2/14 students will be spending part of the afternoon celebrating at a Winter PBIS celebration (similar to last year’s event, let Ms. Turner know if your child would prefer to attend an alternate activity).
