Turner Tribune 1/12/18

Hello again families,

First and foremost, thank you all so much for the kind words and generous gifts that were sent our way prior to the winter break. We count ourselves truly lucky to be a part of such a supportive learning community.

It was an engaging first week back together.

In ELA:

  • Students presented in small groups about their World Issues topic,

  • Students got to preview the lit circle novels that will be started next week

    • We are studying dystopias, by exploring the themes that are interwoven in each novel as they relate to culture and current issues in the world.

  • All 6th grade students will compete in their ELA class Spelling Bee this Tuesday. Earlier this week, students were provided with the word list here to help them prepare.

In social studies:

  • We reviewed terminology and factors of river-valley civilizations, as precursors to an official focus on Egypt, which will help improve students’ foundational understanding.

  • We learned background information about hieroglyphs and how to write students’ names on a cartouche.

  • Next up, specifics like nomes, pyramids and more!

In other news:

  • The Drama Club has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for microphones, click here to learn more.

  • Students will be starting their Health unit next week; class will take place Thursday afternoons with Mr. Loustaunau on the gym stage. Please view the 6th Grade Health Scope & Sequence & Health Program Letter for more details on what your children will be learning.

  • Ms. Turner will be off campus next week for personal reasons. If there are any time-sensitive matters, please be sure to communicate with Mr. Hurwitz, as well as the main office (if needed).
