Happy Friday,

Students had a busy second week of school. We have already completed fall NWEA testing, started our CAFE procedures in ELA, met with our book buddies, and taken notes in social studies on the factors that influence the shaping of culture. Next up for ELA, we will celebrate “6 Traits Week” by discussing strategies for incorporating the 6 traits of writing into our first unit of the year, the personal narrative. In social studies, students will be starting to design top secret artifacts that align with an imaginary culture we are creating in each separate homeroom class. These artifacts will eventually be buried in the garden beds outside Mr. H’s room for the opposite respective 6th grade class to dig up and study, like real archaeologists.

Looking ahead, we have our ⅚ traditional cooking day coming up on September 19th. Next week, we will be sending out a spreadsheet asking for supplies/donations as well as volunteers to join us in our cooking endeavors. Also next week, we hope to be sending out information regarding our first field trip of the year, to take place in October. Lastly, if you are interested in ordering books through Scholastic for your child, please feel welcome to earn our class points by entering the code 1FFDY.
