The Lion in March

I think we’d all agree that March definitely rolled in like a lion this year! Hopefully, the worst of the March weather is behind us, and we will be getting a break from the cold and the wind soon! Meanwhile, in the classroom, we’ve had a strong start to the the 3rd trimester with much to do in both ELA and social studies.
In ELA, we will be meeting for the 3rd session of our Literature Circles on Monday. Each student has a specific “role” (or job) to do each week our Literature Circles meet. These roles are recorded on the first page of their Literature Circle packet. It is very important for all students to stay on top of the reading and complete their assigned roles before coming to class on Monday. This allows them to fully take part in the small group discussions happening within their Circle. Students who don’t come to class prepared will be assigned independent work instead of meeting with their group. Spelling tests will be given on Tuesday for Prodigies, SBSN Spellers, Teletubbies, Puppies, and Tacocats.
In social studies, we are moving into the Southwest region and students can expect a quiz on these states this Friday. After that, we will cover the Western Region and have our final quiz on Friday, 3/22.
Mrs. Neil and Mr. Stewart’s class has started an exciting partnership with the farm and we will be taking a trip there to do some greenhouse work this Thursday. The Liberty Prairie Foundation received a substantial grant to install a pollinator habitat and our class has been invited to collaborate with them on this important work. Not only will we work with them at the farm, we will also receive some plants to add to our classroom garden to increase our pollinator habitat as well. We are very excited to be a part of this project, and we will keep you updated on our progress!
