Sixth Grade Sentinel – 5/21/21

Hello 6th Grade Families,

Before we get into our academic update: we’ve received a request for students/families to write letters or cards of appreciation to a PCCS alumni and his platoon-mates who all serve in the Marines. If your family is able to set aside some creative time this weekend, please return any cards created to the classroom and we will pass them on to be mailed together. We will also aim to set aside some time during class in the coming weeks to write cards as well. 🙂

This week,

  • In ELA: students worked on designing a comic about a personal heroic journey from their life (trying out for a team, learning a new skill, etc). Next week, we will be wrapping up Percy Jackson!

  • In Social Studies: students got to explore 5 topics for *Greek Week*! Students received a variety of resources and let their interests guide their learning this week. They also turned in their Greek Figure Funko Pop toy design slides – they had fun being creative with this assignment! Next week, we get an introduction to Ancient Rome.

  • In Science: we are starting our final 6th grade Science project, theme park maps with at least 3 different “lands” based on units we have studied this year. Mrs. Wright is thrilled to see what these creative kiddos will come up with. These projects are due Wednesday and will be shared Thursday and Friday in class.

  • In Math: Cacti Math is working on their own statistical question and then calculating mean, median, mode, range, IQR, and MAD based on their results. We are learning a lot about our peers who answered the survey questions. Poodle Math is continuing to solve equations and inequalities in various forms. Next week, we will have a week of Geometry concepts.
