School Choice Week
by Susan Neil | Jan 21, 2018 |
As we celebrate School Choice Week, we’d like to thank you all for choosing to send your children to Prairie Crossing Charter School. We hope that our school has met (and hopefully, exceeded) the expectations you had when you made this choice. The teachers and staff at our school sincerely thank you for sharing your children with us!
On Monday, we will have a School Choice assembly which will be immediately followed by the school Spelling Bee. Congratulations and good luck to our 5th grade representatives: Shrishant Hattarki, Laurel Fullerton, Soulee Heller, and Jack Estrick. Weekly spelling tests will return to our ELA classrooms this week and our vocabulary test will be on Tuesday (originally scheduled for Monday). Also in ELA, we are beginning our Literature Circles led by Mrs. Flaig. Novels and roles/responsibilities were assigned and discussed last Friday and books will be distributed to the students this week. Ask your students about the book they’re reading!
In science, we studied taxonomy and the classification of plants and animals last week. Each student chose a rainforest species to research which will be shared with the classes this week. After that, we will be moving from the tropical rainforest to the temperate rainforest, and then it’s on to the savanna!
On Friday, we sent home some information about the Jump Rope/ Hoops for Heart program. Below is a note from Mr. Flinn:
Hello PCCS Families,
2018 Jump Rope/ Hoops for Heart is up and running. We are raising money and awareness for the American Heart Association for research and ways to help those who have heart disease.
PCCS students can fundraise online by going to this website “ www2.heart.org/goto/prairiecrossing “ (this way they get more incentives) or cash or check donations. All proceeds will be going to the American Heart Association. Student packets have or will be going home this week so please take a moment to look through all of the new features this year has to offer and how to sign up. If you are to have any questions, please feel free to email Mr. Flinn (K-3 PE teacher) at any time and he will get you answers ASAP. Thank you for your generosity and all that you do!
